NFL Needs To Suspend Belichick for Sign Stealing

Submitted by CurtMerzFan, Sep 12, 2007 22:47

This is bigger than Belichick or the Patriots. It's about the integrity of the game, and it's bigger than MIchael Vick, steroids, gambling or any other weakness afflicting the judgement of behaviour of folks in the NFL. The reason this is worse is because it required a conspiracy of actions by multiple individuals with the approval if not the outright direction of the coaching staff. Every member of that staff is tainted by this. Isn't it curious the Patriots got caught while playing the Jets? I wonder if Mangini had inside info about the way the Patriots conduct thier business? Perhaps that's the big burr under Belichek's saddle? hrmmm... I imagine Mr. Goodell would like to go back to the good ole days of managing the image issues of dogfighting. Belichek would have been better off getting caught laying bets against his own team with a Vegas sports book. It would have at least only been a denigration of his own character. As it is, no one can ever hold the same regard for the Patriots as an organization or their accomplishments of recent note. They're crooked.

The commish needs to send as stern a message as possible to the rest of the league AND to the fans at large that the NFL will not tolerate cheating even among management or ownership. He needs to suspend Belichek for at least 4 games because he's the architech of this team, and he needs to forfeit the game they just won over the Jets as well as take, at a MINIMUM, a first round pick from next years draft. A substancial fine, say 25 million dollars against the team seems in order too - otherwise owners will not be suitably dissuaded to insist on clean programs.
