I am a chinese in USA. As I understand there is no democracy or freedom among international relationship. There is only national interest. If it's good for American's national interest, of course the government will agree with it even the counterpart country is a dictator such as the south korea in 70's or current Egyptian govenment. Second, Taiwan as I understand is not a real democratic govenment, look how they fight during the legistration hearing.
