Very interesting updates about how the issues raised by Jacobs are playing out right now!

Regarding Amsterdam Houses: If I understand it correctly, some historic preservationists are trying to obtain designated landmark status for this development (and, as mentioned a year or so ago in "The New York Sun," for Silver Towers, a non-Housing Authority tower-in-the-park development in Greenwich Village, as well). It seems to me that this would make fixing its economic and urbanistic problems very difficult, if not impossible.

Would be interested in finding out what 1992 speech by Jacobs is being referrred to and where it might be found.
