Linking a City Housing Authority's Money Woes and a Jacobs Complaint

I agree that Amsterdam Houses has great potential to sell space for various commercial enterprises. Likewise, the residents would embrace anything that would brighten the doom and gloom that prevails because it would bring about a greater police presence. The community centers located on the grounds of Amsterdam and Amsterdam Addition are under used and do not currently serve the needs of the residents. Throughout the Authority these community centers are rented by so call not for profit organizations who charge residents a rental fee for birthday parties, baby showers, etc., but the money collected is never reported or filtered back to the community. At Amsterdam Houses, the multi storied Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center pays the Authority less than $2000 a month rent only because it has a day-care center and a pitiful senior lunch program for seniors, yet it rents out several offices to various unknown people. The space that Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center occupies should pay market rent to the Authority which has to be more that $20,000 per month. This is just a small snapshot of mismanagement.
