Fed Scrambles To See Greenspan's Scathing Critique of U.S. Economy

Submitted by Mark Bower, Sep 17, 2007 11:31

Especially this part

"Mr. Greenspan says that out of office, watching the deficit mount, the housing market boom, the economy slow, and the stock market falter, he has felt like Cassandra. "

Three out of four are false. Since bernanke was sworn in Feb 1:

The housing market has clearly peaked judged by home sales figures or the case-shiller price index
The Federal deficit as a percent of GDP is down to 1.5% vs 2.4%
The S&P 500 is up 15%
The only part he is right on is that Q405 GDP was 2.9% and the most recent figure was 1.9% y/y

As always with Alan, he doesn't let the facts get in the way of playing politics and image protection.
