Been visiting the island since it first reopened. The surge in visitors are not New Yorkers who largely dont even know about it or the free ferry. Its the tourist buses that 'dump' everyone on to the ferries. If the trend continues the quiet, serene escape on Gov's island will be no more of an escape than Battery Park. It will be overrun with tourists and camera's that dont care about the park itself or the history on the park but just want to get a great photo of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the skyline. I just hope with the future development plans that it is geared toward more New Yorker / local type develops like recreation fields (baseball, soccer, etc.) so there is a balance for all on the island.
