NYU, Brooklyn Polytechnic Merger Talks To Resume
in response to reader comment: You can spin the situation to your advantage

Submitted by ENO - Poly, Long Island Graduate Center, Sep 18, 2007 12:45

NYU is all about money. They are one of the largest real estate owners in Manhattan. I am confident that their only interest in Poly-Brooklyn is to gain a foothold on the campus and eventually dismantle the engineering program for more "lucrative" majors.

Engineering enrollment is in decline nationwide. Why would a profit oriented institution be interested in supporting a program with that has a static or decling enrollment.

If poly wants to partner with another "Brand Name", at least try Columbia. Columbia has an engineering school that has existed for many decades, and is Ivy League. NYU sold off their engineering program in the 1970's when it was no longer profitable. Does this bode well for Poly?

On a side note, as a former resident of downtown Manhattan, I've had the opportunity to interact with many NYU students and grads. This interaction usually consisted of ordering drinks from them at a bar or as staff at restaurants.
