A Simple Plan for School Testing

Submitted by Sir Bodsworth Rugglesby III, Sep 18, 2007 13:19

Mr. Pondiscio's idea deserves keen study. Since the tests he prescribes would be administered randomly, allowances should be made for kids having an off-day and proficiency requirements on them shouldn't be as exacting as with the all-or-nothing tests currently administered. But an aggregate score, covering three or so such examinations would give a deeper insight into a child's advancement.

Such a program would also motivate students to be tuned-in at all times, rather than allowing them to selectively retain knowledge which they can cunningly deduce will be of further value to them. After all, if the point of education is that all knowledge is valuable, testing should fortify that principle, not cynically repel it.

Educators, give this a long look!
