Optimism and War
in response to reader comment: Wrong on Vietnam, wrong on Iraq

Hundreds of thousands of near-toothless skulls grin at you at the Vietnam War Memorial in Hanoi and they all seem to agree with the mindless views on this post on how righteous the US of A was in abandoning the South Vietnamese Govt. and people at the onset of victory in their war against the North Vietnamese Communists. As an intern mostly carting-away/burying hundreds of those who have succumbed to disease and hunger, my sister had volunteered in one of the many boat-people refugee camps in Malaysia in the early 80's, where they were 500,000 of them in Malaysia alone! Maybe the millions who fled Vietnam and Cambodia actually enjoy putting off to sea in rickety death-traps as pastimes or were they trying to escape Communist "re-education" experts who are drowning them with TLC? Millions were murdered in cold blood, some with pickaxes by their own children and siblings. Sons were forced to rape and murder their mothers/sisters and fathers their daughters. Until Americans collectively wake-up to the reality of what had happened to an entire generation of Vietnamese and Cambodians who were wiped off the face of this earth as a direct consequence of the US of A's lack of courage, perseverance and resolve in SEA during the 60's and 70's, all of you will wear the stain of the blood (i.e. plus the shame and scorn that comes with it) of the millions who died believing in the empty promises of the American leadership and people.
