Hooting and Hollering Won't Fix Mets Problems

Randolph has been on the record as saying he'll keep going back to Mota. He buries Schoenweiss for ten days, then uses him four days in-a-row (the last two being disasterous). Then, worst of all, Minaya says that the decision to start Brian Lawrence Monday night was Randolph's. Randolph's reasoning for using Lawrence was that "he was on turn." I don't care that Willie doesn't get angry in public, call out players, etc., What bothers me is Randolph's judgment. He is in the biggest crisis of his managerial career and it's not going well. Having Brian Lawrence start a game that you really need, to me, calls into question Randolph's judgment. If the Mets blow this, the watch on Randolph begins in April 2008. Maybe those GMs that interviewed Randolph over the years, and passed on him, saw the same thing we're seeing now and it wasn't the racial thing that has been implied by the sports media.
