America's Other 1950s Blacklist

The post New deal/WW2 era was rife with fellow travelers and out and out enemies of America. While McCarthy went too far in going after the small fry,he was not wrong insofar as there were a lot of communists/Stalinists in high places.Paul Robeson is one of the more famous examples. What some may not know is that Robeson,EVEN WHEN CONFRONTED WITH STALIN'S ATROCITIES defended him. That really blew my mind when I read that. There were others as well. And while McCarthy,to be redundant, did get drunk with power and had illusions of grandeur,at first he would not go after the smaller, less important fish.

I am convinced, too, that President Franklin Roosevelt also was, while probably not a communist, eerily close to Communist types i.e Upton Sinclair and Henry Wallace.FDR's repetitive calls for class warfare plus his alliance with Stalin-an alliance,to be fair borne of some necessity, imo cultivated a mindset where communists felt emboldened to metastasize and become more "out there".
