I'm not buying it. I love how people jump to conclusions about what the justice system WOULD do if it were a white defendant. That's a load of bull. Has anyone been to North Carolina yet and met Mike Nifong? Justice is wearing a blindfold for a reason...I only wish that journalists would do it as well.
These kids gang up on a kid and beat him, and therefore should be punished as what the law requires. According to the district attorney hanging nooses simply isn't against the law. A bunch of thugs beating up a person is. If it was your son, or a black kid beat up by white kids there would be no protests, because most white people don't associate with criminals when they have a choice...and saying what those kids did is somehow "alright" because they were replying to nooses is asanine.
I don't care who it is, anyone that physically assaults another person to the point they have to go to the hospital should be put in front of a judge and punished. Do I think the original charge was too much? Of course, but that doesn't mean we should excuse what these kids did. This isn't a civil rights issue, this is a civility issue. Beating another person is NEVER permissable, no matter your skin color.
