Fixing Airport Delays

Submitted by Mary M, Sep 21, 2007 06:44

You are absolutely off base in your suggested solution for airport delays. It is crazy to suggest the private owner of a small Cessna Skyhawk pay the same as a commercial airliner to land at an airport. The airlines make millions of dollars and charge excessive amounts for each passenger, but the private general aviation pilot has only his own income out of which such a fee would be paid. You're comparing apples with oranges here. Also, most GA pilots don't use the big, overcrowded airports but the thousands of much smaller local ones. Not only is it much more of a hassle, but the prices to land there are already too high for such pilots.
The real problem is the major airlines switching to smaller planes and then overscheduling flights. Their greed is showing now in how they refuse to face the true source of their woes and in their bullying attacks on general aviation. Next time you get stuck at an airport, count how many small planes (truly small planes--not corporate jets) are in the line for take-off... Don't wipe out General Aviation to satisfy big airliners' greed.
