The idea that America remains racist is simply an excuse for minorities to claim victimhood. Institutionalized racism is a thing of the past. Individuals still hold racist views, and they ought to be dealt with to the maximum extent of the law when they harm minorities because of their racist views. But to claim that America is still racist citing evidence of the ratio of a particular minority's prison population to their overall population is a non-sequitor. There is no relationship between a population's propensity to violate laws and the overall population's regard for that minority. The author claims that no white student would be sentenced as severely for the crime that the black students committed. In fact, the crime would have been punished more severely because it would have been conflated to a "hate crime" which carries far more severe punishment. The reverse racism is apparent, because the black students were not charged with committing a "hate crime" as white students in the reverse situation would surely have been charged. Once again, what we have are Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton living up to what we have come to expect of them. They dismiss any kind of punitive judgement against blacks as evidence of racism, stir up mass black protests, eventually overturning the legal system with threats of mob violence, and the black perps receive no punishment. They learn that they can get away with their anti-social behavior, and see no reason to obey the same laws that everyone else has to. They learn they are above the law. The most famous example of this is OJ Simpson. Now who's acting racist?
