Louisiana Town To Ban Saggy Pants
in response to reader comment: freedom of expression

This is ridiculous on so many levels that I don't even know where to start. This is a laughable waste of the money, time and resources of this town. If these hayseeds have nothing better to do with their time why don't do they go and pitch in with the rebuilding effort in New Orleans. Ok, for those of you who don't understand how America works or what personal freedoms are here's a hint: it's the opposite of this. Bottom line - you can't tell people what to wear in public in a free society. Period. I don't want to see fat women in hot pants and belly shirts. But, I can't stop them from wearing those things. Tony, I think that if someone was walking down the street with their naked ass cheeks hanging out of their pants for all to see the police wouldn't be wrong in stopping them without the aid of this law because that's "Indecent Exposure" which is already a crime. But, I don't really care if you wanna see my "drawers". Last time I checked seeing someones undershorts was not considered obscene. Why are you looking anyway? If that was the case then people would no longer be able to wear swimsuits, running shorts, etc. If they can tell you that your pants can't be worn a certain way what's to stop them from saying things like: "women can't wear pants at all" or "women must be covered from head to toe while in public" or "all men must have a beard at least 4 in. long". You know what I mean? What it boils down to is this - you can't limit someone elses personal freedoms to suit your own beliefs. At least not in America anyway. That would be like forcing a religion on someone because you think you know better than they do. The reason why America is great is because we have the freedom to say I am me and you can't force me to be like you. Sorry for the long-winded comment, but this issue is just ludicrous and I suspect there are some racial undertones as well. This whole thing is a violation of the constitution anyway and if the fine is really $500, then this law will be challenged and struck down fairly quickly. That is all.
