I thoght yours was a very perceptive and measured post. I couldn't agree more. The only thing I would add is that this fashionable nihilism and "in your face" stupidity has been around for a long time. I went to Cornell in the late 1970's. The political antics of the student body, and more despicably, the majority of the faculty makes the New School look like kindergarden. Oh well, it never hurts to point this out, over and over and over again, if necessary. Best wishes.
