Finally! Someone has the guts to write a piece like this!!! Thank you!!!! I am an avid soccer player and love to watch soccer on tv!! For those of you who agree with ryan that soccer cannot always be pretty... it does, it needs to be entertaining. Top leagues in the world are extremely entertaining... the european leagues have the lots of flair (brought in great part by the huge influx of south american and african players).

What disappoints me about our display of the game is that it shows no progress in our game... if anything, we have regressed. We should be the super power in women's soccer in the world... we've been playing it longer than the rest of the women in the world! yet, here's korea, china, japan... more technically sound than the US! And, no... I am not saying that we don't need players like Wambach. We do... we most definitely benefit from players like her... but our defense cannot spend all game kicking up the field hoping it gets to her!

Someone needs to say it outloud... we need to change something in the way we train/teach our young girls. If not, we will not do well down the road. We may keep winning games and might even win this WC, but we will not attract fans to attend games to this professional women's league we so much want to have. Women's basketball league has players that have flair when they move the ball... they don't just run up and down the court. Why can't we expect the same from our soccer players... I don't like to see a soccer match when the ball gets kicked long every other time... I find it BORING! If all I wanted to see was people run, I'd watch track and field.

Thanks for this article. Maybe someone (in power) will want to do something about the future of our soccer in America. We have great resources, let's use them.
