Daniel, my dear, I was touched with the solemnity that you, from your ivory tower, advise provoking yet another war. Again we are reminded how the American model of democratic participation can fade away when a President is "left on his own to make this difficult call." Thank you for painting the image of what a President psychologically needs to launch into an unpopular war. Secluded from the world, "driven by his temperament, inspired by his vision, surrounded only by a close circle of advisers, insulated from the vicissitudes of politics..." and, of course, lacking appropriate intelligence and allied support. You should know that the Joint Chiefs of Staff have officially warned the President this year about the socio/economic/political risks of such a war. Many experts maintain this is the first time in US history that the military has openly done so. The Marine, Army and Navy have all gone on record opposing such an adventure. Perhaps, they enjoy insights that you may wish to consider before advising the contrary.
