Real estate SLUM landlord owners who persistently contribute big time to the election funds of almost all council members seem to have been left out of this effort. Slumlords who ignore for years and then FIX or politically BURY hundreds of violations ,which reality reality process insures that the lives of those who can least afford to fight them in Housing Court are miserable, are in as dire a need of a few years in jail instead of in their fancy Scarsdale homes in orderr to correct their ethics as the developers and their contractors. covered in your article
Curiously, most council members rely on the votes of the less fortunate in order to keep their job, and use the money contributions of the slumlords to convince the less fortunate to vote for them.
Why can't any building with say 1 or more unresolved violations per each rental unit that is unresolved in consecutive 6 months be subject to jail time. And why can't those who have twice that be automatically jailed for two weeks per unresolved violation, no judicial reduction allowed. Remember one creep, living la vida loca, causes miseries for hundreds of others.
