Betting On Bayh

Who the Republican nominee will be is immaterial and irrelevant, none of them can overcome the Clinton juggernaut in the general election. The only worthy Republicans (Paul & Tancredo) are in such a weak position in terms of money and power that even teamed up they would require truly miraculous intervention to prevail for the nomination, let alone the general election.

In Independent land there is only one prospective candidate who could make a serious challenge, Colin Powell. If he comes down with a bad case of "fire in the belly," he (Colin Powell) could venture into the fray, and team up with someone the likes of William S. "Bill" Cohen as his veep running mate.

But regardless what happens with Republicans and Independent presidential-wanna-bes, the Clinton juggernaut will be ready and waiting. Bayh makes sense in terms of providing electioneering help in America's ailing, drought-stricken breadbasket states; but more importantly, he meets the essential criteria for Hillary's running mate, i.e., he would not upstage her (intentionally, or unintentionally), and he would be willing to take a back-seat to the Co-President.
