Rebellion, of Sorts, Stirring at Stuyvesant High

I find it somewhat self-delusional for the principal to feel that his school is so important that "terrorists" would decide it pertinent to attack the building. Personally, I feel that the Empire State Building would be a tad more symbolic a target to strike than Stuyvesant.

Furthermore, I feel that Mr. Teitel's remark on a possible membership fee to join StuyWatch to be overwhelmingly ignorant and disrespectful of the student-run community; the principal brushed off a sizable movement to change school policy, that, in many other schools, would at least be taken seriously. He must realize that such a movement with a size as this cannot be taken lightly, and at least address the issue with a decent amount of dignity and humility. The quote shows that Mr. Teitel is too indulgent in his own self-importance, and not on the importance of the voice of the students- the voice that schools were suppose to nurture and support.

What the students demand is not unreasonable; in fact, I believe it is quite within the right of said students to make such a protest, and their equal right to receive the object of their protest. The policy of the school addresses an invalid threat and only serves to control the students. Not only do these students show considerable will and maturity, they also have the courage to stand up to a system obviously tilted towards the authority of the adults- towards a population that is caught up in its own personal problems rather than focusing on the problems of the next generation.
