Columbia University is not New York City government. It's not a bridge, not a highway, and not a subway. Columbia University is a private educational institution.
Eminent domain here says that certain private businesses are more important than others; government will decide the fate of your private property and set the priorities. It's not exactly the American way.
Who's to say that Columbia University's priorities for your private property are more important than yours? The same Columbia University that allows itself to be a forum for genocidal dictators? The New York City government decides they're better than you are?
The plan should pass without use of eminent domain.
