The Secrets of a Naked Piece of Wood

Great book and great review. Such a shame you couldn't get his name right! It's PETROSKI! Having read a proof of this work, I believe this review nails the essence of Petroski's work which could have been titled "Zen and the Art of Toothpick Manufacturing." Such a small thing, the toothpick, but such a fine example of a simple idea brought to world-wide prominence. All the ingredients are there in microcosm of the same battles fought endlessly with an endless variety of products, all struggling to catch on and grow somewhere. I'll never use a toothpick again without a sense of awe and wonder.
