The fasting growing problem in health care financing today is underinsurance. People who develop medical problems are facing financial barriers to care even though insured with these newer innovative plans. Deregulation with increased competition of innovative insurance products will only compound this problem. The problem that needs to be addressed is not how to provide affordable insurance products to healthy people, rather it is how do we provide affordable access to health care for people who have medical needs. Deregulated competing private plans will never provide a solution to this problem.
