Road to the Opposition

Everyone, including persons who had been illegal immigrants, tells me that our border security needs to be corrected and enforced. However, clemency is warranted in a situation where there was great poverty at home and practically no legal way to enter the United States.

The Latino immigrants from Mexico distrust government bureaucracy and political control based on their experience with governments in Mexico and elsewhere. They are natural allies of Republicans, until Republicans demonize them. While many say that Mexicans "breed like cockroaches" and that they deliberately "broke our laws," many Latino voters ask, "What sort of man would honor a border if it meant his children lived in poverty, ignorance and indifference?"

It's time to allow clemency for the dysfunctional immigration situation we have created, and to allow legal and responsible entry for the unskilled labor our economy needs.
