‘Lunacy'

The author here wants to defend traditional free-market conservativism, and is attempting to paint Bloomberg at some sort of turncoat, but the logic/argument that follows is inverted and hypocritical. The cold hard truth is that the GOP has abandoned traditional conservatism in favor of a large government so-con nanny state. Bloomberg's (and many, many others) defection from the GOP says more about how severely the GOP has mis-managed it's platform and priorities than the motives of good and righteous folks that have since turned their backs on the party.

One should also note that the failed presidential aspirations of deficit-hawk candidates roughly corresponds to liberal/democrat ascendancy. When the GOP ignores it's pillar of fiscal responsibility, it loses 10% of it's base. That 10% may never win an election on it's own, but it's defection from the GOP is more than enough to usher liberals into power. Apparently the author of this article isn't bright enough to see this correlation.
