in response to reader comment: Boycott Olympics

Submitted by Ron, Oct 2, 2007 18:18

China has a lot to explain about the atrocities that happened in Burma. They have continuously supported the Junta since they took power in the '60s. And as the civilized nations of the world decide what to do with the situation, China has already started the colonization of Burma and dreaming of the annexation of the country to be one of its province. There is also a talk being conducted in establishing a Chinese naval base in Burma. Burma is rich in oil and gas and the Chinese gives its silent blessing to the government. News of the massacres were barely mentioned in Chinese TV news. The corrupt government of China can ill afford to show its citizen the bravery of the Burmese people. If the Burmese citizenry was successful that would cause problems within the Chinese government. What is good for the Burmese is also good for the average Chinese who are tired of the same corruption that plague their neighbor. There are over a million Chinese nationals now in Rangoon/Yangon and in some areas it look more of a Chinese neighborhood than Burmese. China must realize that playing ostrich is not for its best interest. The world must send a very strong message to China and that message is boycotting the 2008 Olympic and switching of economic trades with other Asian, South American and African nations. China has so much pride with the Olympic that a boycott will be like a social disgrace to its international standing. China must also realize that their obstructive behaviors along with Russia in the UN will not benefit there countries. When China's pocket start hurting for cash then the work is partly done. All law abiding countries must unite to show that we, the world will not allow such disregard for human rights. Burma was once a province of India and as such India should try to exert some pressure on the Junta. At this moment the Indian companies that have invested over $300 million for gas explorations are worried if their investment will be affected by the events of last week. Russia has blood on its hand also being a major supplier of military hardware to the Burmese army.
