An independant/3rd party type of candidate with this kind of support will steal votes from the main republican nominee, and we will have a repeat of Clinton's victory over Bush 1 when Perot stole votes, allowing Clinton to win with a small % of votes. This midwest Christian base has to ask itself if it wants to risk giving up republican control for 4-8 years based simply on a few issues that may not even come up during the next presidency. They have to choose between the "lesser of two evils" so to speak, otherwise they will be stuck with a socialist/progressive who wants to silence religion and increase the power of the fed over daily life.
