The only time an organization hires someone to write a book about them is when they are either having a true egomanicial moment or when they have expired. I like to think that Lincoln Center is here for a long time and that their second wind of architectural improovements is a vital sign or life getting them ready for the next 50 years. I'm actually waiting for an announcement that the three main buildings on the fountain 'quad' will be refaced in something besides that awful travertine marble and those ailing modern facades.

But, back to the book. It sounds like the Lincoln Center powers that be want to see their names in print and be remembered (not being creative types) one way or another for having done something in their lives. Shame on them.
