New York's Next Frontier

An integrated global society? What mush. Who thinks like this? Mr. Bollinger oohs that Governor Spitzer "fought for an 11-year, $600 million stem cell and biomedical research funding initiative to find cures and create needed jobs;" yet he is silent about the fundamental ethical guidelines and principles of embryo research that have to be ignored in order to get that money for his University. Is this his idea of global science? Forget ethics. Damn the torpedoes? Do we really want research without ethics? All this rhetorical rapture about New York being the next frontier is beyond disturbing. To say that "In upper Manhattan our scientists will not only study this future, they will invent it " give me the creeps."
