Keeping teachers accused of serious ineptitude or misbehavior in crowded "rubber rooms" much like recreational rooms for the criminally insane just shows how irrational the "Bored" of Education can be when faced with a serious administrative challenge. Why not just send the accused home until their cases are resolved? The overhead used to keep these people twiddling their thumbs for a few years --what to speak of their salaries!--could be utilized to expedite their cases and let them get on with their lives. Randi Weingarten is right in this case: yes, threaten to sue the Board of Education, but the union needs to do its part by taking practical steps to strengthen the screenings processes used during hiring. The current system fails our children and the taxpayers by allowing undesirables in the teaching pool in the first place.
