The suggestion that Senator Thompson makes to index Social Security benefits to inflation seems to be a little behind the times. These benefits have been indexed for many years; indeed one of the reasons we are heading for a demographic train wreck with Social Security is because of automatic benefit increases. That Senator Thompson is unaware of this is remarkable.
