Diversity is diversity: neither good nor bad on its own. America's strength has been diverse parties working together for common goals and mutual good. That is the meaning of the melting pot. When diverse parties work for diverse goals which benefit diverse interest groups, the result weakens the attempt to realize the common good. "Balkanization" is not strength; it is conflict and fragmentation. When immigrants came to America seeking the promise of freedom of opportunity to improve their lives, they worked hard to become part of success that they could not achieve in the places they left. The resulting culture resulting from people from diverse backgrounds working together with the freedoms envisioned by the Founding Fathers to improve their lives became the American culture - keeping the best of their heritage and adopting the best of the heritage of their fellow Americans. The strength of America is freedom of opportunity, not diversity!
