A $1.5 Billion Vision For Coney Island
in response to reader comment: look to the future, and take a lesson.

I still have very fond memories of my parents taking me and my brothers and sisters to Coney Island many years ago. That was a special treat...a trip to a special place. I even remember getting " skin burned" on that great slide in Steeplechase because I could not stay on the mat.

One of my great pleasures every summer is to take my 12 year old daughter to Coney Island with her friends. Sure, Steeplechase is gone but I point out Key Span Park to them and tell them that that is where some of my greatest childhood memories took place.

We go to Astroland...ride the Cyclone...walk the Boadwalk...win teddy bears...eat at Nathan's...watch the freak get shot in the freakin head...watch the fireworks on a Friday night...eat ice cream... and go home with what will be wonderful memories for her and her friends...and another set of fond memories of Coney Island for me too.

I understand that progress is necessary but not in every situation. Some things just need to be left alone and Coney Island is one of them. It may not be the most beautiful place in the world but it is one of them if you look with more than your eyes.
