Bottled Water Industry At a Tipping Point

A lot of bottled water sold today is actually tap water filtered through a carbon and/or sediment filter.

Anyone can buy a carbon or sediment filter to filter their own water at home or in the office.

Faucet mounted filters, refrigerator water filters and pitcher filters are mostly carbon filters which simply filter out the chlorine that was added at the water treatment plant. Removing the chlorine from water does help with the taste.

One of the highest levels of water filtration available for home or commercial use is reverse osmosis filtration. It is available as a filter system that installs under a kitchen sink or as part of a filtered water cooler. Unlike conventional filters, reverse osmosis filters need to be plumbed into a drain line because it produces waste water.

All in all, water is free at the tap and there are plenty of economical choices available on the market today for those who would choose to filter their own water.

Filtering your own water also gives you greater control over what you drink. You know exactly what type of filter that water has been run through instead hoping the water in that bottle is really as pure and as clean as the mountain spring imprinted on its label.
