I'm not saying your thesis--that the New York Sun is kicking the tail of the New York Times--is wrong, but you've offered exactly zero evidence to support it. You see, if you want to assess which paper is winning the circulation battle, you would have to include the score for the New York Times and the score for your newspaper and then you would have to, uh, compare them. To determine the winner, you just look at who got the larger score. Which you didn't do. You don't have a score. You need to include the score before you figure out who's winning.
Also, it would also be interesting to look at the rate of decline in New York Times subscriptions in Manhattan relative to comparable newspapers and newspapers as a whole. Call me crazy, but in the absence of data, I'd guess that a New York Times decline in submissions in Manhattan is more like to be due to the fact that the newspaper is available on the internet for free than because the New York Sun is whipping its butt the way Rudy G is going to whip Hillary Clinton's butt in the general election. Or is that not what the editorial was saying?
