The plaque should be corrected. With all due respect to Ms. Schor and Mr. Morena, poetry isn't about communicating concepts: it's about feeling things, about being moved. To a poet, a comma is every bit as important as a word. It causes a pause, it effects the flow of language, the pace by which an idea or an image enters the mind of the reader, how it unfolds and prepares the way for the rest of the poem. Nothing is accidental, trivial or inessential in poetry and to dismiss a missing comma is to misunderstand the nature of poems. I'm so glad the error was found and hope the plaque will be corrected soon. How hard could that be anyway?
