Does anyone at his right mind truly believe that improving safety and, as was recently claimed, lowering car insurance rates are the real motivations of Gov. Spitzer's initiative? I don't. Here in California, state Sen. Cedillo is trying to pass his bill that would mandate issuing driver's licenses to illegal aliens, ostensibly because of similar safety considerations, but when a modification was proposed that would make these licenses invalid as de facto proof of citizenship or legal residency, Cedillo vehemently rejected it.

It's obvious to me that the main reason for all such initiatives is a back-door amnesty for illegal aliens. Here is a link to a short commentary that ridicules such amnesty agenda and its phony rationale:
