I disagree with the suggestion to ignore signs of racism. Expose them. These acts should never be tolerated. Then move on. But never pretend they didn't happen. Slavery happened, the Holocaust happened, and the deliberate extermination of Native Americans happened. All acts of hatred, oppression, and racisim. Should these acts, in no way comparable to the ignorant hanging of a noose, also be ignored? Of course not. When does man lose his humanity? When he no longer sees his fellow man as his brother. When do we start to fall apart as a civilization? When each individual is no longer honored within our society. What will we become as a people if each of us is not treated with dignity and honor?
