Back and forth the Ottoman eastern front went-Russian advances and retreats.When feeling secure Armenain partisans(terrorists?) pillaged and raped-not only Moslems and their property but Jews as well.The Armenians felt that the Jews were supporters of the Ottoman government.The Ottoman government was the protector of the Jews in the Empire.Few Jews lived in the area of Anatolia inhabited by Armenians- they did not feel welcome and were subject to abuse by Armenians. Even today, if one searches the web, virulent Armenian anti-semitism is rampant...and few Jews live in the Armenian Republic.The Armenian Republic that has moved ever closer in its ties to Iran.Both Azerbaijan and Turkey have been the target of Armenian attacks and terrorism.Even the neighboring ,largely Christian,nation of Georgia hold realtions with Armenia at arms length. It is surprising the extent to which Jewish members of congress have embraced the Armenian Genocide resolution-it shows an ignorance of Jewish Armenian history-and a total lack of knowledge of the atrocities committed against Jews by Armenians at that time...as well as a pervasive undercurrent of Anti-Semitism in the Armenian community today. Pehaps it is a strength of the Armenian lobby that most Jewish contact with the American-Armenian community is professional to professional... contact with those who have moved beyond xenophobia.
