Is a Third N.Y. Baseball Team Feasible?

Submitted by Bev O'Brien, Oct 22, 2007 18:28

Mets and Yankees Fans have been dedicated to their own clubs not just for their life time but some either have supporters have a family institution. Quote; my father was fan, his father was a fan, my brother too. Now my son and daughter are fans and their families are followers too........

To start a new club in such traditional areas (Mets/Yankees) would need a lot of promotion, a lot of incentives for fans to switch and another ballpark that would have to rival that of Shea or even the infamous Yankees Stadium. Who knows you could get people that like baseball but don't follow a team; but I doubt any would exist in the New York Boroughs.

I think a lot of tradition and fellowship was lost when they closed Ebbets Field and moved it to LA. Yes, fans made the move to Mets or Yankees...but some stayed true fans to the Dodgers and still are today. You can't expect a new club would change peoples hearts and loyalty from one year to the next year….if you think that then you are not a true fan of sports yourself.

I am a Yankee Fan and proud to stand by the team all the way; win or unfortunately lose. And I would hate to say I told you so...but name me one True Yankee fan that would be rallying to change to another team. NONE!

If the 3rd team ever comes along, good luck! They are going to need it.

For my two cents worth; I hope congress never changes the 1922 legislation.
