I think Mr. Ibrahim is having a hissy fit.

The Turks probably figured out that no matter what they do, there is nothing that they can do to ingratiate themselves with the Europeans. The may have realized that the price of admisssion to the EU is just not worth it.

With the Americans upsetting the regional balance by screwing up in Iraq, Turkey may have decided that it is to their advantage to become the regional leader either opposed to Iran or in conjunction with it.
