Winning the Catholic Vote

Submitted by dennis graff, Oct 23, 2007 11:43

rudy giuliani would do very well with the catholic vote overall and sweep the italian vote for obvious reasons. this vote is decisive in pennsylavania, michigan, wisconsin, and new jersey.(all staes essential to a dem victory in the electoral college). this is a crucial swing vote traditionally democrat but now slightly republican in most races. an italian catholic republican sweeps the vote significanly to the gop and elects the gop statewide even in new york(note senator d'amato, governor pataki , and mayor giuliani). this sweep becomes even bigger if hillary clinton is the nominee(she is about as popular with italian and catholic men as the plague.) i disagree that the focus should only be on this group since the gop needs a large turn out from evangelicals as well- this will be insured in record shattering numbers if the dems are foolish enough to nominate hillary.( who the pollster zogby shows that 50% of likely 2008 voters say they will NEVER VOTE FOR ).the bottom line is the gop wins if hillary is nominated while other dems have a much better chance to win.
