As a Catholic who cares deeply about Life issues (especially embryonic tinkering), I wish there were a genuine "Catholic" vote. Alas, there is not, thanks to the unwillingness of Catholic leaders to articulate a Catholic position.
Our evangelical brethren have the advantage of an outspoken clergy. They are told from the pulpit how their faith is threatened by political developments. Catholics are left by the heirarchy to form their minds from the information at hand - principally the mainstream media. As a result, Catholic voting demographics are not much different than mainstream Protestant (or mainstream Pagan, for that matter).
In 2004, the Democratic Party - with a national ticket led by a nominal Catholic - published a party platform that enthusiastically endorsed the destruction of human life, and the Catholic hierarchy, with pitifully few exceptions, chose to take no notice. Neither were they willing to observe that the Republican platform explicitly endorsed the Catholic view of Life. As a result, 47 out of every 100 Catholics voted to promote abortion and the destruction of human life for the sake of scientific experimentation.
Catholic "Social Justice" advocates equate the expansion of bureauracy with the elimination of poverty while ignoring the reality that dead babies will never have the opportunity to be poor. Unless the bishops unite to speak truth in the face of popularity, the "Catholic Vote" will remain a fantasy.
