Texas Teacher Suspended After Book List Complaint

It amazes me, as a Librarian, that people take something like this to these types of levels. If you are unhappy with a book, remove it from the child's hands that is YOURS, NOT from ALL the children that you have no right to censor! Do you know how many kids the Harry Potter series has helped to get reading? Yet I have one church in town that feels it inappropriate literature for our library. Fine, that is their choice, don't make that choice for all the other parents who see that their kids like it. It is pure FICTION not sadistic! This book is FICTIONAL and it is on a recomended reading list. Should not this parent be looking up the board that put that list together and sueing them also? It is like chewing out a waitress because your food isn't cooked right! Sorry, this type of situation is just completely irritating to me. It is frustrating to see a child discouraged from reading when we work so hard to try to get them to just pick up a book.

A teacher that encourages children to grow and learn, should in turn be encourage to teach. NOT be punished for making learning fun and more exciting.
