NFL Seizes Opportunity To Market Draft Further

Submitted by Alfred J. Lemire, Oct 24, 2007 10:12

The NFL's Draft Daze remind me--if memory serves--of an Arch Oboler radio play, "The Chicken Heart," which jsut kept on growing and growing. Even though the NFL cut back the draft's hours and thus the televised minutes, it claims to want to steal more eyeballs from the dopes who buy the beer and muscle cars advertised by teen-aged voices. It will do that in part by starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday. That's church time for many in the East, at least those of us who attend church. And on the Left Coast, where a half dozen or so religious believers live, the Sunday TV draft will start at 7 a.m., before lots of people are awake. It's time to resist. I planned to skip the first round this year anyway, since my team won't have anyone to choose. And if I watch on Sunday, it won't be until 1 p.m. The NFL went too far with that 10 a.m. Sunday start.
