ABT's opening galas are usually choppy and emotionally unsatisfying affairs as we know ABT primarily for it's full length ballets. When Mr. McKenzie has a middle person stage the usual Met productions he always keeps someone between his responsabilities and the final production to blame if the production is a failure (Cinderella, etc.). Why the Board waffles on flushing him is a mystery. I guess that once you've been in place for so long the Board is just an manipulatable annoyance that comes for cocktails and goes for dinner...and little else. The greatness of ABT lies in its dancers, not it's artistic director. The Board should fly to Spain and beg Corella to return as Artistic Director or go to Argentina and beg...well, anyone of experience and discernment would be better than Mr. McKenzie.
