Visual Artist R.B. Kitaj Is Dead at 74

Well done. This obituary appears to be the only one to give anything like a proper feel of Kitaj's accomplishments and motives. Over time, to my slight surprise, Kitaj proved himself to be the most interesting artist on the planet. He was a stimulating painter in ways that very few painters are. The endless font of ideas would often fascinate or infuriate (I loved how he would let himself explore anything, without decorum) but it was the weird and stunning visual clout of the paintings that made a sucker out of me.

Why are there not more flies in the ointment with this level of ambition?

Farewell R.B. You will be missed.
