In Opting Out, A-Rod Gets Last Laugh

Submitted by Dan, Oct 29, 2007 08:14

You hit the nail right on the head, when yu said that the Yankees insulted A-Rod with a reported $150 million for five years, except that the offer Rodriguez could refuse was probably a bit less than that; say, four years at $27.5 million a year (not counting the three years already left on his contract), according to reports in the media. With A-Rod rightfully demanding a minimum of 10 years at $30 million per, this was certainly an insult, and an offer the Yankee brass would have expected him to refuse. Thus, the Yankees are letting the greatest ballplayer since Babe Ruth walk.

In the past, the two Steinbrenner sons have shown they have no interest in running the Yankees. Unlike their father, they have also shown they have no interest in winning.
