Plastic Bags Are Target Of Council

Ms. Quinn: "If we really want to get serious about improving our environment, we need to look at major sources of nonbiodegradable waste," It seems to have been overlooked by Ms. Quinn (and she is certainly not alone) that NON-biodegradable wastes keep carbon locked up for extended periods of time and thus keep it from reentering the atmosphere as carbon dioxide or methane. Biodegradable materials are thus actually worse for the environment because they rapidly decompose and their carbon is thus more quickly put back into the atmosphere as a greenhouse "contaminant". Forget biodegradability except from a roadside aesthetic point of view...and here is doesn't make much difference whether it's paper or plastic. Recycle and/or reuse? Yes...and plastic bags are much easier to reuse.
